How remote work helps us help you

by | Jan 15, 2025

As you sit down to read this blog post (thank you!), where are you? Are you at the company office? Are you in your home office? How do you feel, wherever you are? At HelloInfo, we are most often working remotely and have many thoughts to share on this style of operations.

Long before the COVID-19 pandemic shut the world down, the benefits of remote were already being discussed. However, with the March 2020 onset of worldwide lockdowns, remote work suddenly became critical to ensure economies did not collapse. This kickstarted a greater trend of remote work becoming acceptable, but as the pandemic fades in the rearview mirror, return to office mandates are now a contentious topic among workers. I personally have heard many grumblings from friends about new policies mandating badge swipe checks, 5 days in the office, and monthly attendance tracking.

“Remote or hybrid work is an employee privilege, not an employee right or entitlement…” City of Toronto

“[Remote work is] an aberration that we’re going to correct as quickly as possible…” Goldman Sachs

“Not being able to get together in person, particularly internationally, is a pure negative.” Netflix

“Remote work is no longer allowed, unless you have a specific exception.” Twitter

Since HelloInfo’s inception, we have adopted a fully remote policy from the outset. This policy has aided in both our professional and personal lives and offers many benefits to our clients.

How companies benefit from remote work

When not absolutely necessary (like in a lockdown), the overall concept of remote work has historically experienced great resistance. These usually come from management citing productivity concerns or tactical issues which limit a supervisor’s ability to observe and coach employees. But remote work must be considered beyond these Theory X managers, to understand the many positive benefits that it brings. These advantages include:

  • Increased productivity – The world’s top researchers from Gallup, Harvard University, Stanford University, and Global Workplace Analytics all agree that remote work boosts productivity and revenues. Remote workers on average are 35-40% more productive than those in an office. As a highly productive team, we at HelloInfo can easily tweak and pivot on client projects to adjust research parameters so that project outcomes are exactly what are desired by stakeholders, in a nimble way.
  • Keeping talent – Knowledge workers now expect a certain degree of remote work. Gartner cites that high-performing employees report a 16% lower intent to stay in the face of on-site work requirements. Luckily for HelloInfo and our clients, as a fully remote team we are much less likely to see our awesome colleagues move on. Clients can expect our team members to bring years of experience and will not experience churn like they may with our in-office competition.
  • Performance – Remote workers have more autonomy to do things the way it makes sense to them. This results in better quality work, with 40% fewer defects. All HelloInfo employees have the space and autonomy to make decisions as they see best.
  • Lower organizational costs – With less need to supply office equipment and space, organizations can save an average of $11,000 per worker working remotely for part of the week. Lower overhead costs enable HelloInfo to work with organizations with smaller budgets, such as nonprofits.
  • Communication – While more companies have moved away from hierarchical organizations, implementing remote work takes this further as it encourages more horizontal communication. In virtual meetings, there is more equality and more room for open communication. This means that HelloInfo clients can expect a diverse point of view from across our team on the insights we deliver.

How the HelloInfo team benefits from remote work

Some of the most common benefits for those who work remotely include an increase in job satisfaction, improved physical health, and better work-life balance. Every morning our team can wake up knowing that we are helping reduce emissions by not commuting. For some of us, remote work enables us to live in more affordable communities or ones that better suit our lifestyle.

We balance our remote approach by working together on the last Friday of every month, where we collaborate, have delicious lunches, and laugh. We also take a trip together every June (like Regina and Halifax) to explore a new city, to strategize for the coming year, and to have fun together. Touchpoints like these allow us to feel connected to each other and to grow our relationships.

How our clients benefit from HelloInfo’s remote work

From its inception, HelloInfo has been a fully remote company. While we are headquartered in Toronto, we have team members located throughout Canada who reap the benefits of our remote policy. By having a remote team, we:

  • Can draw from talent all over the world, allowing us to find the best of the best team members.
  • Are adept at communicating across several platforms and media and can stay appraised of cutting-edge trends in virtual communications and collaborations.
  • Are dynamic and responsive to changes when needed, across time zones.
  • Are more focused on supporting our clients rather than be distracted by the affairs of office culture.
  • Reduce the risk of disruptions from events like emergency transit line shutdowns (no commute!) and local power outages.

We would love to support your organization to compete better with our diverse, flexible, and highly intelligent team! Please schedule a call with us to discuss the many ways we can help.
